Patanjali Yoga Sutra Chant Group

“In order to direct the mind to something positive, the mind requires to be ready for it. Otherwise there will be only confusion. Like cooking food in a vessel that still has old food—dirt—clinging to it.”

TKV Desikachar

Meeting Format: We begin with the Patanjali chant. We chant a sutra, explore its meaning and relevance, and sometimes meditate on a related object. Occasionally we devote part of the meeting to learning Sanskrit sounds and pronunciation. We close with a chant asking forgiveness for our mistakes.

Approach: Our purpose is to understand and interpret the Yoga sutra-s, so we can apply them in our daily lives. The Yoga Sutra is as relevant today as it was when Patanjali put it in writing about 2000 years ago. These very practical teachings offer tools we can use to improve the quality of our lives. We read and discuss several interpretations, rather than subscribe to any single author's interpretation. The goal is for everyone to participate and learn.

Prerequisites: It is not necessary to know Sanskrit to attend. The only prerequisites are an interest in chanting and in the Yoga Sutra.
